Therapy with children and young people
Are you worried about your child or teenage daughter or son?
Are they behaving in ways that concern you, but won’t talk to you about it?
Do you feel powerless or like you can’t get through to them?
Sometimes an independent, confidential space to talk, outside the family, is what they need.
Children and young people have a lot to contend with. They are growing and changing and, just like adults, can experience a wide range of emotional difficulties.
As well as the complicated task of growing up in today’s world, children and young people may be facing additional pressures such as:
- Bullying
- Difficulties in relationships with peers
- School and exam stress
- Loss and bereavement
- Divorce
- A new baby or new extended family
- Difficult family relationships
- Abuse and trauma
- Issues around identity/sexuality
Unless they can find a safe, confidential space to share these issues they can experience destructive thoughts and behaviours, or be left feeling powerless, despairing and alone.
They may present in the following ways:
- Have issues with eating
- Isolate themselves
- Appear unhappy or say they are not coping
- Feel fearful, depressed or anxious
- Be self harming or using drugs and alcohol
I have offered counselling and creative therapies to children and young people for many years. I can create a trusting space for them to explore their thoughts and feelings - and help them find their equilibrium.
Using counselling and creative therapies enables us to explore difficult feelings together, verbally and non-verbally, enabling communication through creative expression and different creative media.
And maybe I can support you, too.
